Soldier leaks army secrets

A 23-year-old army conscript has been charged with violating state secrets after allegedly uploading confidential military documents, including details of a mobilization plan in the event of a war, onto a file-sharing site on the Internet, police said yesterday. Officers from Attica’s electronic crime squad said they were alerted to the man’s alleged actions by the army’s electronic security service before gaining a prosecutor’s approval to monitor his activities on the Internet. Police seized two computers and several disks from the suspect’s home in Arta, northwestern Greece, in a raid on Wednesday. The 23-year-old was released yesterday after posting a -3,000 bail payment on the condition that he stays in Greece. He is to complete the remaining two months of his military service in Arta and will face a military court in Ioannina in about a year from now.
