Regimental flags are borne before President Costis Stephanopoulos during yesterday’s military parade in Athens for the annual Independence Day celebrations to mark the start of the 1821 War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire. On Saturday, in pouring rain, schoolchildren, students and boy scouts also paraded through the city center. Last Thursday, March 21, the head of Greece’s television regulatory agency, Mr Vassilis Lambridis, suspended two popular trash TV reality shows, the sleazy «Big Brother» and the tacky «Bar.» The justification given for this decision was that they unwittingly (?) facilitated the violation of laws on public decency and dignity. So what? The truth is that there’s a lot of crap on TV, whereof everyone derives his or her guilty pleasure.
