The navy’s Psara frigate…
The navy’s Psara frigate set off yesterday from the Salamis naval base for a three-month tour of duty in the Indian Ocean, where it will carry out patrol and escort duties as part of the US-led military operation ‘Enduring Freedom’ in Afghanistan. Carrying a crew of 226 – including 60 conscripts and 10 special underwater operations divers – the Psara is expected to sail through the Suez Canal tomorrow. Greece has already sent 132 soldiers to Afghanistan, and another 45 are due to join them within the next few weeks.
