Daughter kills father after years of abuse
A 19-year-old woman, who told police she had suffered five years of sexual abuse at the hands of her father, fatally stabbed him on Monday in Thessaloniki after he allegedly threatened to send her back to the family’s native Kazakhstan, or even kill her, if she stopped having sex with him, police said yesterday. Natalia Kechiopoulou, a computer science student, turned herself in to police on Monday evening after stabbing her father Giorgos, 41, a civil engineer. She said she used the knife to defend herself against her father’s enraged response to her demand that he stop having sex with her. He fell upon her and she stabbed him in the stomach. She then stabbed him in the neck after he started to strangle her, she told police. Kechiopoulou told police she then spent some hours in the office that she and her father had set up to assist other immigrants from Kazakhstan, from which the family had immigrated in 1992, before turning herself in.
