Children in carnival costumes parade through the center of Patras yesterday, under an unseasonably strong sun. The northwestern Peloponnesian city hosts Greece’s most popular carnival festivities, attracting tens of thousands of visitors every year. Carnival reaches its climax this week, with Thursday being Tsiknopempti, the traditional heart of the season, which ends on Sunday, March 17.
