A man looks at the trunk…

A man looks at the trunk of a centuries-old tree outside a police station in the Cypriot resort of Paphos yesterday. The terebinth tree is one of two, believed to date to the 14th and 16th centuries, uprooted by youths taking part in an Easter bonfire competition, police said. Terebinths are among 30 species that cannot be felled without permission.
