President Karolos Papoulias…
President Karolos Papoulias kisses a cross held by Archbishop Christodoulos during a service at Athens Cathedral yesterday on the occasion of the Sunday of Orthodoxy feast. During an official lunch with Church leaders, Papoulias ruffled feathers by insisting on the need for Church and State to stick to their separate roles. ‘Any excess of the limits has unpleasant and dangerous consequences on society,’ he said, and invited the Church leader to ‘respond to the social demand’ for Church action against corrupt clergymen.
