Universities making way for freshman attendance
Even though distance learning is expected to be the norm this academic year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Education Ministry has proposed that first-years should, where feasible, attend courses at university, but their numbers should not surpass 50 people.
“The goal is for the freshmen who graduated from secondary education to be in the academic environment and to understand the operation of the university,” said Deputy Education Minister Vassilis Digalakis in comments to Kathimerini, ahead of the start of the academic year on Monday.
For their part, universities consider the first two weeks of operation as well as the course of the pandemic to be pivotal for their future moves.
At present, in universities with laboratories and those where distance education is not easy, almost 80% of the courses will be done remotely, with a higher percentage at institutions with a more theoretical orientation.
