Case files against Papangelopoulos sent to Supreme Court
The Greek Parliament sent the case files against former alternate justice minister Dimitris Papangelopoulos to the Supreme Court Friday to decide if the ex-SYRIZA minister will be tried in a special court on charges that include breach of duty and incitement to criminal abuse of office.
While serving as alternate justice minister, Papangelopoulos is accused of seeking to incriminate political opponents during the investigation into the purported Novartis pharmaceutical bribery scandal. He denies any wrongdoing.
After acrimonious debates between lawmakers of ruling New Democracy and SYRIZA, Parliament last week voted to bring charges against Papangelopoulos.
