Soldier in Presidential Guard dies
A coroner’s report is expected to shed light on why a 24-year-old member of the elite Presidential Guard collapsed and died on Thursday night.
The soldier was identified by Patra news websites as Spyros Thomas, who used to play for the city’s Promitheas basketball team.
According to the Hellenic Army General Staff, the soldier was transferred from his barracks to the 401 Military Hospital in Athens feeling unwell on Thursday night.
He died soon after his transfer.
