Abandoned house in central Athens collapses; no injuries
An abandoned old house collapsed in Athens’ so-called historical centre on Tuesday, private broadcaster Skai reported.
No people appeared to be trapped inside and no injuries were reported from passersby.
The house was located on Iouliou Smith street, right behind the Hill of the Pnyx – an area visited by hundreds of tourists.
Video footage from the scene showed a pile of rubble and wooden panels filling the small street.
A local resident told Skai the owner of the house lives on the island of Cephalonia and has been alerted on the incident.
This is the second collapse of an abandoned house in the Greek capital, following a similar incident in the central district of Keramikos on Sunday, when two cars were crushed.
It is estimated that here are some 1,400 abandoned houses in central Athens, Skai said.
