Farmers to temporary close national highway at Platykambos junction
Unionists representing farmers in Nikaia, central Greece, are preparing to set up a two-hour roadblock on the national highway linking Athens and Thessaloniki at the Platykambos junction, following a meeting on Monday.
The highway will be closed from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Hundreds of farmers are expected to park their tractors along one highway lane in a section near the city of Larissa.
Farmers escalated their protest action, setting up 23 roadblocks around Greece over the last two weeks, demanding tax breaks and lower production costs.
Members of the national roadblock committee said on Monday they were in contact with Agricultural Development Minister Stavros Arachovitis and were waiting for him to inform them which government members will take part in a meeting they have demanded.
