Zaev says he has confidence in Greek coalition to approve name deal

In the wake of a series of statements by Greece’s junior coalition partner in which he threatened to resign over the Prespes name deal, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) Prime Minister Zoran Zaev on Friday expressed confidence that Greece’s government will ratify the accord once it reaches the country’s Parliament.

Asked by journalists about recent statements by Independent Greeks (ANEL) leader Panos Kammenos, Zaev said he has “confidence in Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, the Greek government and the Greek people, the Greek opposition and the Greek people.”

“I also have trust in Kammenos, who is also a member of the government,” he added, noting that Greek politicians should “give a chance to such a historic deal because it is good for both countries and peoples.”

Zaev said he believes the trust he has in Tsipras will be reflected in the Greek Parliament and that he, for his part, will work to ensure the deal is approved by lawmakers in Skopje.
