Greek Foreign Ministry says Turkey violating Cyprus’s sovereign rights in Eastern Mediterranean
One day after Ankara warned Nicosia over hydrocarbon-related activities in Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), the Greek Foreign Ministry on Monday accused Turkey of questioning international law by violating Cyprus’s sovereign rights in the Eastern Aegean.
“We urge Turkey to refrain from further unlawful activities and comply with its commitments as they emanate from international law,” the foreign ministry said in a statement in Greek, adding that Turkey’s behavior did not befit an EU candidate state.
The ministry praised Nicosia’s “cool-headed and sober stance,” saying it confirmed its role as a pillar of stability in the wider region.
