Seaman injured on Ikaria as ship’s rope broke

A 52-year-old crew member of the Nissos Myconos ferry sustained serious leg injuries when the ship’s rope broke during the process of the vessel’s departure from Ikaria island, in the eastern Aegean, late on Thursday.

At the time of the accident there were particularly strong winds at the Ikaria port of Aghios Kirykos. The seaman was on board when he got injured.

He was taken to the island’s Health Center by ambulance and on Friday he was expected to undergo surgery.

Nissos Myconos departed without any further problems. It served the route linking Kavala with the ports of Limnos, Mytilini, Chios, Vathy, Karlovassi, Fournoi, Aghios Kirykos, Ermoupoli and Piraeus.
