Greek debt at focus of Tsipras meetings with Moscovici, Lagarde
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Thursday is to meet European Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum at Davos in Switzerland.
The meetings are expected to focus on debt relief and economic reforms, after the Eurogroup on Monday gave a conditional go-ahead for the release of 6.7 billion euros to Greece and for the start of technical talks for debt relief after the other 18 eurozone finance ministers said that the country had implemented almost all the prior actions needed to conclude the third review of its third bailout.
Tsipras’s meeting with Moscovici is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. and with Lagarde at 5 p.m., according to the ANA-MPA news agency, with the Greek prime minister expected in both to stress the need for significant debt-relief measures to help get the economy onto a sustainable path of growth.
