February 4 name talks rally moved back to Syntagma
After initial concerns of possible clashes with self-styled anarchists, the organizers behind last Sunday’s rally over the ongoing name talks between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) have decided to move the Athens installment of the event back to Syntagma Square.
Organizers of the Thessaloniki rally, which saw an estimated 90,000 people turn out in the capital of the region of Macedonia to protest the use of the word “Macedonia” in any settlement with FYROM, had said on Tuesday morning that the Athens event would be moved to Piraeus to avoid any tension.
A few hours later, however, it was announced that the rally would go ahead on Sunday, February 4, in front of Parliament on Syntagma Square, as originally planned.
