House speaker approves 1 million euros in aid for flood victims
Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis on Thursday approved a tranche of 1 million euros in aid to victims of the flash floods that struck western Attica in November.
Voutsis’s approval came after a Parliament plenary session decided to grant the sum on November 17.
The catastrophic floods last month killed more than 20 people and resulted in massive damage to state infrastructure and private property.
The government had come under heavy fire for what was perceived as its inadequate response.
Regional authorities have already approved a 500-million-euro program for flood prevention works.
