Macedonia University rector to take recourse over vandal attacks
The rector of the University of Macedonia, Achilleas Zapranis, appeared determined on Thursday to hit back after vandals ransacked part of the campus the previous night in the second such attack in a week.
The vandals snuck into the university’s main building on Wednesday night through a side entrance and made their way to the first floor of offices, where they splashed paint on the walls and smashed furniture, windows and office equipment.
Speaking to Skai TV on Thursday morning, Zapranis said he would be taking recourse to the European University Association (EUA) in order to make the agency aware of the situation in Greece, where universities have been increasingly coming under attack from anti-establishment groups.
“We need to finish giving amnesty to crime,” said Zapranis, adding that the left-led government is abusing the asylum system of protecting universities from police intervention in order to safeguard freedom of expression.
The University of Macedonia had come under attack in a similar manner last week as well.
