Bid to lift university transfer limit

Bid to lift university transfer limit

Education sector reforms in the works aim to support students from low-income families while merging technical colleges and abolishing vocational training institutes.

The changes, heralded by Education Minister Costas Gavroglou during a debate on next year’s budget in Parliament, are likely to lead to a surge of requests for transfers by students, the fiscal impact of which remains unclear.

As it stands now, the law allows 15 percent of university entrants to transfer to another university.

Gavroglou’s proposed reform, which would allow students from low-income families to transfer to a university near their hometown to curb expenses, would scrap this limit.
