Officer kills wife, daughter, mother-in-law, then himself
Police on Monday were investigating the circumstances surrounding a murder-suicide in which a 46-year-old policeman shot dead his wife, mother-in-law and 3-year-old daughter before killing himself in their home in the western Athens suburb of Aghioi Anargyroi.
According to police investigators, the officer used his service revolver in the attack, which appears to have been the culmination of a vicious argument over property.
The officer was employed as a guard at the Greek Parliament but since 1996 had been part of former socialist prime minister Costas Simitis’s security detail.
The bodies were discovered by relatives who visited the house on Evripidou Street after being unable to reach the family by telephone.
The bodies of the two women were found in the lounge while the officer and his daughter were found in the bedroom.
