Patra residents reject plans for new rail line
A large delegation from Patra is expected in Athens on Monday to voice its opposition to plans for a new rail line to run through the western port city.
The delegation is hoping to meet with Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis to convince him to expand the operation of the existing local train rather than proceed with plans for a new rail line.
“Under no circumstances will we accept a new line that will violently rend the city’s heavily built fabric and separate it from its coastal front,” the representatives of several municipalities and community bodies warned in a letter addressed to Spirtzis last week.
