Bear deaths on Egnatia Highway prompt calls for action
Two Greek wildlife conservation groups, Arcturos and Callisto, on Friday called for a barrier to be erected on a section of the Egnatia Highway near Kozani in northern Greece after a bear was killed in a road accident on Thursday, the fifth such incident this year.
Similar barriers have been put up along other parts of the highway. The bear killed in Friday’s incident was an adult male weighing about 120 kilograms.
It is thought the animal was struck by a large vehicle, probably a truck.
