ND attacks gov’t for failing to protect homes of vulnerable groups
Greece’s government came under fire from the conservative opposition on Friday over the resumption of auctions of foreclosed properties.
During a press briefing, New Democracy spokeswoman Maria Spyraki attacked the “insensitive” government for failing to protect vulnerable social groups against auctions.
The issue has even polarized the ruling SYRIZA party itself on ideological grounds. On Thursday, leading party officials warned that it could seriously damage the government’s leftist credentials.
The warning came a day after police used teargas to disperse protesters from an Athens courtroom where they had been trying to halt dozens of planned foreclosure auctions of property.
