MPs mulling law allowing quick divorces
Draft legislation that would simplify the procedure couples have to follow to obtain divorce by mutual consent, even allowing their official separation to be confirmed within an hour, has been submitted to Parliament.
The new regulations are expected to become law before Christmas and will allow couples who want to divorce to go to notaries and complete the necessary paperwork. Until now, even in the case of divorce by mutual consent, a court decision was needed, which often took up to a year.
Once the new system is in place, couples should need no more than an hour to ratify their divorce and the document they receive at the end of the process will have the legal standing of a court decision.
