Civil servants in Attica to walk off job on Wednesday
The Attica branch of the national union representing civil servants, ADEDY, has called a work stoppage on Wednesday that will bring much of the public administration grinding to a halt as of 12 noon.
The union called on its members to gather outside the Health Ministry in downtown Athens at 1 p.m. to protest the upcoming expiry of hundreds of fixed-term contracts in the public health sector.
ADEDY is demanding that workers hired on fixed-term contracts be granted permanency, while also protesting delays in the payment of overtime to healthcare and local government staff.
Workers at the Culture Ministry will also be holding a 24-hour strike on Wednesday to protest the start of online foreclosures.
