Experts helping Kalymnos police in student’s suspected murder
Police on the southeastern Aegean island of Kalymnos have called in experts from Athens to help them investigate the suspected murder of a 21-year-old university student.
The body of Nikos Hatzipavlou was discovered by a teenager on Saturday a few meters from where investigators had found the 21-year-old’s bicycle earlier in the week after he had been reported missing the previous weekend. It bore extensive signs of injury, though cause of death remains to be ascertained by a coroner.
Investigators are acting on the assumption that Hatzipavlou was murdered and his body was later dumped at the location police had already investigated. They are looking into the possibility that the 21-year-old fell victim to drug dealers who are known to work in the area where his body was found.
Hatzipavlou was a student at the National Technical University of Athens and was in the southeastern Aegean island visiting his mother, a schoolteacher.
