Airport workers given fraud seminar
The Police Directorate of Athens International Airport on Friday held a special seminar for airport workers who are responsible for inspecting travel documents.
The seminar, part of which was conducted by experts from Germany, was attended by 120 people, among them air carrier employees, ground crews and airport staff.
The seminar comes in the wake of tension between Athens and Berlin after German authorities imposed more rigorous checks on passengers traveling from Greece, claiming to have intercepted more than 1,000 people flying in from the country with forged identification documents in the January-October period.
One of the main issues is Greece’s failure to issue new biometric identification cards, which are much harder to forge than the documents currently issued.
