Local authority workers call one-day strike, plan rallies
Local authority workers are to walk off the job on Wednesday, in response to a call by their union, POE-OTA, for a 24-hour strike.
Among the protesters’ demands are the immediate recruitment of more staff to plug gaps in services and the signing of a new collective work contract that offers them better job security and labor rights.
Protesters are to stage two rallies in Athens, the first at 9 a.m. outside the Education Ministry, to underscore their claims that the pressure is particularly difficult in the education sector, and a second at noon outside the Interior Ministry.
