ATV owners to hold protest in Athens on Monday
Some 3,000 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are expected to travel from different parts of the country to the Transport Ministry in Holargos, northern Athens, on Monday, to demonstrate against the ministry’s new highway code.
Companies that rent the four-wheel recreational vehicles as well as owners are protesting a clause in the draft legislation that would prohibit them from circulating on paved streets and restrict them to dirt roads.
The ministry argues that restricting the use of these vehicles will limit related accidents, particularly on the islands in the summer months, where they are a popular form of transport for tourists.
