Center-left candidates brace for Sunday’s leadership vote
Campaigning by candidates for the leadership of the new center-left party officially ends on Friday night, two days before elections take place on Sunday, with speeches by the leader of To Potami Stavros Theodorakis at Zappeion Hall in Athens and PASOK MEP Nikos Androulakis at the Vellidio Conference Hall in Thessaloniki.
In the event that none of the candidates musters a 51 percent majority, a second ballot will be held on November 19.
Apart from Theodorakis and Androulakis, the candidates are Democratic Alignment (PASOK) leader Fofi Gennimata, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis, former PASOK ministers Yiannis Maniatis and Yiannis Ragousis, the leader of the Union of Democratic National Reform movement (EDEM), Apostolos Pontas, the former dean of the Athens University of Economics and Business, Constantinos Gatsios, and prominent entrepreneur Dimitris Tziotis.
