GD member guilty over attack on student
An Athens criminal court on Wednessday found Christos Zervos, a member of the far-right Golden Dawn party, guilty of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with an attack on a student in March outside the party headquarters on Mesogeion Avenue, northern Athens.
Zervos was serving at the office of party chief Nikos Michaloliakos when he and other Golden Dawn members assaulted student Alexis Lazaris as he walking past the offices.
It is thought that the attack on Lazaris was unprovoked and was intended to send a message of retaliation for an earlier attack on the party’s headquarters by far-left activists.
Zervos denied involvement in the incident. His sentence was suspended pending appeal.
