Sales of 1.5 hr e-tickets start

Commuters can buy electronic versions of the regular 1.40-euro ticket allowing access to all forms of public transport in Athens for up to 1.5 hour.

Up until Monday the ticket was only available in paper form. Paper tickets will be discontinued on November 15. Eventually commuters will be able to renew electronic 90-minute tickets at machines, as is the case now for monthly passes.

Meanwhile, hundreds of street kiosks are to start issuing electronic tickets later this month.

The Athens Urban Transport Organization is awaiting the response of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority to its request to allow online applications for electronic tickets.
