Police to test samples from Aspropyrgos toxic waste dump
The Attica Security Police’s department for environmental protection is conducting tests on samples of toxic waste taken from the site of a huge illegal landfill in the region of Roupaki, in Aspropyrgos, western Attica.
The samples were collected by state environmental inspectors who were dispatched to the site following a series of complaints about a growing mound of waste from construction and demolition sites as well as other refuse.
According to sources, the makeshift landfill is a 5-meter-tall mass of waste, including dead animals. It is located next to a livestock farm.
The police’s environmental department is to determine the source of the toxic waste — which companies or individuals should be held responsible — and as well as its potential impact on public health.
