Corfu dockworkers extend strike
Dockworkers on Corfu who walked off the job on Tuesday, leaving the Ionian island without ferryboat services, on Wednesday decided to extend their action to Saturday morning after talks between union and shipping firm representatives failed to yield a compromise.
Initially the workers called a 48-hour strike starting Tuesday, calling for longer breaks between sailings, a small hike in salaries and overtime pay.
After talks collapsed, the union on Wednesday called a new 48-hour strike to start on Thursday morning, suspending ferry connections to the island until 6 a.m. on Saturday.
