New TV license bill approved in Parliament
A government bill paving the way for a new competition for the granting of private television licenses was approved in Parliament on Wednesday with the votes of coalition lawmakers.
The competition, which will be overseen by the National Broadcasting Council, the industry’s independent regulator, will take place by the end of the year, Digital Policy Minister Nikos Pappas told the House before the vote.
A government-organized auction for TV licenses last year was revoked by a top Greek court.
