Greece condemns NYC terror attack
Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Wednesday expressed condolences to his American counterpart Donald Trump over a suspected terrorist attack in New York City on Tuesday night that left eight people dead.
His condolences and condemnation of the truck attack were extended by his spokesman to US Ambassador in Athens Geoffrey Pyatt, and also expressed the support of the Greek people.
The Greek Foreign Ministry echoed the president’s sentiments. “Our thoughts go out to #NewYork terrorist attack victims & their families. We stand by the people of US & its gov’t,” it wrote on its Twitter account on Wednesday.
Eight people were killed and almost a dozen injured when a 29-year-old man in a rented pickup truck thundered onto a busy bicycle path in Manhattan, New York City.
The suspect has been as Uzbek national Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov. A note claiming the attack was made in the name of ISIS was found near the truck, CNN reported.
