Police closing in on culprits behind murder of prominent lawyer
Police were closing in on Monday night on the real culprits behind brutal murder of prominent criminal lawyer Michalis Zafeiropoulos in his office in central Athens earlier this month.
Investigators at police headquarters on Monday questioned four Albanian career criminals held at Attica’s high-security Korydallos Prison who have been linked to the attempted contract killing in 2014 of another lawyer, Giorgos Antonopoulos.
This line of investigation, according to sources, pointed more clearly to two men who were suspected almost from the onset of having been hired to kill 52-year-old Zafeiropoulos, but were released due to lack of physical evidence.
Sources suggested that fresh questioning of the pair – also Albanian nationals with long criminal records – had helped investigators narrow down the search for those who ordered the hit.
