Tsipras, Anastasiades in telephone conversation ahead of Trump meeting
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades held a telephone conversation ahead of the former’s meeting with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, reports say.
The Cyprus issue and Greece’s role in the Eastern Mediterranean region are expected to be on the agenda when the two men meet at the White House at 7 p.m.
Washington's interest in the region has intensified, analysts say, as a result of several factors including antagonism with Russia, uncertainty over Turkey’s intentions and political future, the threat of Islamic terrorism, and developments in the energy sector.
