Riot police come under hail of petrol bombs in central Athens
Riot police units stationed in the Exarchia district of central Athens were pelted by petrol bombs hurled by hooded youths late Thursday night.
16 people were detained and later released as there was no evidence linking them to the incidents.
According to reports, the first attack occurred at the intersection of Patision and Tositsa Streets at around 10.30 p.m. A second attack followed shortly after on the corner of Tzortz and Stournari Streets while another one took place at 1 a.m. at the intersection of Patision and Stournari.
The clashes led to police closing off Patision Street until around 1.30 a.m.
