GD member sentenced over remark to slain rapper’s mother
A member of Golden Dawn standing trial with other officials and supporters of the far-right party was sentenced on Tuesday to seven months in prison over a remark addressed to the mother of Pavlos Fyssas, the rapper killed by a party member in September 2013.
Judges found the defendant guilty of verbal abuse and insulting the memory of the dead after he shouted to Magda Fyssa: “Where’s your Pavlos now?”
According to court records, the incident occurred on February 14, during one of many periods of tension in the specially designed courtroom in the capital’s Korydallos Prison, sparked by the defendants demanding that party supporters be allowed into the court.
Testifying in the court this week, Magda Fyssa said the defendant “looked smug” when he made his comment and “appeared pleased that I am in this position and my son is where he is.” She added that the defendant also made lewd gestures.
The unnamed defendant denied the charges. His sentence was suspended for three years.
Dozens of Golden Dawn officials, members and supporters are on trial for their part in the murder of Pavlos Fyssas and for constituting a criminal organization.
