Doctor found guilty of issuing fake blindness certificates
A doctor working at a public hospital on a Greek island has been relieved from her duties after a disciplinary board found her guilty of issuing dozens of fake blindness certificates.
The doctor, whose details were not made public, is said to have issued 235 medical opinions backing claims of blindness or visual impairments that allowed the recipients to collect over 150,000 euros from the state in disability benefits. She is said to have issued these certificates between 1989 and 2011.
The doctor has appealed the disciplinary board’s ruling at the Council of State, arguing that due process was not followed.
