Rights groups demand action over racist attacks
Four rights groups have submitted a motion to sue with a Supreme Court prosecutor over a spate of recent attacks against migrant workers in the industrial town of Aspropyrgos, west of Athens.
The complainants have attached evidence in their report allegedly pointing to members of the far-right Golden Dawn party as being behind the violent assaults, aimed mainly at Pakistani nationals.
The motion against persons unknown was filed by representatives of the Hellenic Union for Human Rights, the Pakistani Community of Greece organization, the anti-racist campaign KEERFA and the Athens Migrant Integration Council.
They claim that Golden Dawn’s branch in Aspropyrgos is being used as a training ground for party members to organize and carry out attacks like those last month against migrants living and working in the area.
