Cocaine haul blocked at port of Igoumenitsa
Greek coast guard officers late Sunday seized more than 25 kilograms of cocaine at the port of Igoumenitsa in northwestern Greece and arrested a man and a woman, both Bulgarian nationals, on drug smuggling charges.
The cocaine had been concealed in the root of a trailer that the pair had been in and which had been due to board a ferry to the Italian port of Bari.
According to sources, Coast Guard officers deemed the behavior of the 57-year-old driver and his 48-year-old wife as suspicious, prompting in inspection which led to the discovery of the drugs.
