Mitsotakis makes fresh call for snap election
Conservative opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis made a fresh call for early elections on Friday, while claiming that the left-wing government’s lack of credibility had undermined Greece’s bargaining power vis-a-vis foreign creditors.
“A beggar only gets what is given to him,” Mitsotakis told a meeting of senior party officials.
“The government will ultimately do what is requested of it because it simply acts like a bystander,” he said.
“It's only concerned about staying in power,” he said.
Greece this week urged European lenders to offer incentives that would boost growth and help break an impasse between the eurozone and the International Monetary Fund on the size of relief the country needs to make its debt sustainable.
