Anti-establishment group claims ministry, bank attacks

The militant guerrilla organization Group of Popular Fighters Tuesday claimed responsibility for planting a bomb at the Labor Ministry in central Athens last December and an explosion outside a Eurobank branch in April.

Actions claimed by the group in recent years include a Kalashnikov assault rifle attack on the old headquarters of New Democracy on Syngrou Street and a similar attack on the German ambassador’s residence in Halandri in December of that year.

Meanwhile, as investigations continue into last week’s assassination attempt against Lucas Papademos, three members of the Rouvikonas anti-establishment group threw fliers containing derogatory language and threats against the former Greek prime minister outside the capital’s Evangelismos Hospital, where he is being treated for injuries sustained after opening the letter bomb.
