Man arrested for starting deadly Aghioi Theodoroi fire when burning brush
Arson investigators on Monday arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly starting a fire in the seaside town of Aghioi Theodoroi, between Athens and Corinth, in which one person was killed and two injured.
According to initial reports, the 28-year-old is a famer who had been burning dead brush near a greenhouse when he lost control of the fire at around 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Dozens of firefighters were dispatched to battle the blaze as strong winds pushed it toward the residential part of the area, later discovering a scorched body in a ravine. The victim had not been identified by Monday.
Meanwhile, two elderly residents were being treated for burns sustained in the blaze, while a third, a woman aged 79, was reported missing on Sunday evening.
The 28-year-old is due to face a prosecutor later in the day.
