Search continues for missing woman in Aghioi Theodoroi fire
Firefighters in the seaside town of Aghioi Theodoroi, between Athens and Corinth, were able on Monday to bring under control a large fire that already claimed one life, as rescue workers continued to search for a missing woman.
The blaze broke out in a forested area in Panorama-Masiari on the outskirts of Aghioi Theodoroi shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday and razed through dry underbrush before encroaching on the residential part of the area.
A body was discovered by firefighters at the bottom of a ravine and had not been identified by Monday morning, though initial reports suggested the victim had most likely died in the fire.
Firefighters also managed to rescue an 84-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman from the blaze. Both are being treated for burns.
Meanwhile, a search was still under way on Monday morning for a 79-year-old woman who has been reported as missing since Sunday afternoon.
