Two men convicted by Komotini court of being members of IS

A Swede and a Yemeni, aged 30 and 20, were sentenced to 15 years in prison Friday by a court in Komotini, northeastern Greece, that found them guilty of being members of so-called Islamic State.

The two men, Mirsad Bektasevic and Amer Al Hasani, were arrested at a bus stop in Alexandroupoli near Greece’s border with Turkey in January last year in the possession of knives, mobile phones and cash.

Both denied the charge and claimed they were in Greece on holiday and were on their way to a forest in the Evros border region. They also said they bought the knives from the Monastiraki flea market in Athens.
