KKE condemns alleged attack on communist MP
Greece’s Communist Party (KKE) has condemned an alleged attack by regional councilor Thanos Tzimeros against party MP Alexandra Balou.
According to reports, Tzimeros, who is also leader of the minor Dimiourgia Xana (Recreate Greece) party, punched Balou during a regional council meeting on forest maps in Athens on Thursday after she criticized him for allegedly ripping down KKE posters calling for a general strike on May 15.
A video filmed by a mobile phone showed Tzimeros being dragged out of the room after the alleged attack.
In a statement released after the incident, KKE called Tzimeros a “hysterical enemy of popular struggle.”
Tzimeros has denied the claims and asked for the release of surveillance footage of the incident.
